Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) | Salvation Army of Bloomington

Provides financial and support services to Veteran Families who are homeless or imminently at-risk of being homeless.

Aims to stabilize these families in housing, while providing on-going support as needed to sustain independent living.

Services may include, rental and utility deposits, limited rental and utility assistance, limited moving costs and emergency supplies, case management services, transportation assistance, information and referrals to community resources, assistance in obtaining VA benefits, assistance in obtaining and securing other public benefits, and assistance in securing permanent housing.

Offers to assist HIV positive individuals with housing referrals, rent, deposit, mortgage, and utility assistance. Encompasses both long-term and short-term assistance and is offered in 64 central and southern counties.

Provides general assistance for individuals in need who are ineligible for any other forms of government support. May also provide temporary financial assistance for expenses such as rent and utilities.

General Relief | Mills County Offices

Programs offered through Mills County General Relief are emergency rent and utility assistance, emergency food assistance (working in coordination with local food pantries), and burial assistance for indigent clients. Applications for Southern Iowa Regional Housing Authority (SIRHA) and rent reimbursement claims are also available.

The Mills County General Relief office helps clients assess their needs, assists in client referrals, and coordinates with other community resources as necessary. The General Relief office works closely with local organizations to ensure services are not duplicated and to maximize resources for resolving local poverty issues.

Advises and aids veterans and their dependents in applying for federal benefits through compensation or pension claims. Emergency financial assistance for basic necessities such as rent, mortgage interests payments, utilities, burial expense and food may be available. Can also assists with applications for benefits made available by federal, state or local laws.

General Assistance | Allamakee County Offices

Provides emergency financial assistance in the areas of rent, gas money, utilities, prescription drugs, and funeral and cemetery expenses. This financial aid can be granted in addition to other types of financial aid the person may be receiving such as Social Security or Food Stamps on a one-time emergency basis. All financial assistance payments are made to the service providers, not to the clients themselves.

Also provides the diaper program for parents in need of diapers.

Permanent Housing | Embarras River Basin Agency (ERBA)

Program services include rental assistance up to HUD Fair Market Rent allowance and case management. Can remain on program as long as eligibility requirements are met.

Homeless Veteran Supportive Services | Primary Health Care

SSVF is a Veterans Affairs funded program which is delivered through Primary Health Care. This program is focused on helping homeless and unstably-housed Veterans and their families living in Warren, Polk, Dallas, Jasper, Story, and Marshall Counties. Services provided include:

CASE MANAGEMENT services that will assist participants in obtaining VA and other public benefits, including: health care referrals, daily living referrals, personal financial planning, fiduciary and payee referrals, legal services, housing counseling services, employment and training referrals.

TEMPORARY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (TFA) which may include rent assistance, moving expenses, security and utility deposits, transportation, and child care. All financial services based on eligibility and available funding.

Provides immediate assistance to those struggling to pay rent or utilities through the Family Support Services Program.

Crisis Assistance Program | Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation (NEICAC)

Can assist, when funding is available, eligible individuals and families with limited resources in need of help with past due or disconnected utilities, past due rent or mortgage, emergency medical and/or dental services, costs to engage in Mental Health services, costs to maintain or gain internet or phone access, transportation, vehicle repairs, swim lessons, seasonal swim passes, and costs associated with participation in extracurricular activities.

**While some costs may be covered under Federal funding sources, the Crisis Assistance program is largely funded by grants and donations. All Assistance identified above is dependent on available funding.

Homelessness prevention services and assistance for individuals and families with children who are in danger of experiencing homelessness within the next 14 days. Program may assist with utility bills and deposits, and rental bills and deposits.

Emergency Assistance Program | Dorr Township

Provides emergency assistance when funds are available. Assistance is provided through vouchers written directly to the service provider and may include assistance with rent, utilities, medical prescriptions, clothing, and food.

Also participates with the Nicor Gas Sharing program, which provides assistance with natural gas bills for those in need. Applications are available during those months in which the program is operating.

It is not intended to provide on-going long term aid to any individual/or family.
