General Relief | Mills County Offices

Programs offered through Mills County General Relief are emergency rent and utility assistance, emergency food assistance (working in coordination with local food pantries), and burial assistance for indigent clients. Applications for Southern Iowa Regional Housing Authority (SIRHA) and rent reimbursement claims are also available.

The Mills County General Relief office helps clients assess their needs, assists in client referrals, and coordinates with other community resources as necessary. The General Relief office works closely with local organizations to ensure services are not duplicated and to maximize resources for resolving local poverty issues.

This financial aid can be granted in addition to other types of financial aid the person may be receiving such as Social Security or Food Stamps on a one-time emergency basis. All financial assistance payments are made to the service providers, not to the clients themselves.

Also provides the diaper program for parents in need of diapers.

General Assistance | Hancock County General Assistance

Assists people who need help with rent, utilities, and funeral services.

The assistance program is designed to provide short-term emergency type assistance to persons lacking the resources to meet basic needs for energy and shelter. It is not intended to provide ongoing or long-term aid to any individual and/or family.

Provides assistance to residents who are needy and poor and in need of immediate assistance and who cannot obtain assistance from any other source. Recipients must be at least 18 years of age and meet current income and resource guidelines.

Assistance may be provided for rent, utilities, or indigent burial, to name a few. A voucher system is utilized with direct payment to the vendor, never cash. General Relief is unable to assist with deposits or first month rent payments.
